About me

I'm Olivia Porter, I have over 3 years of experience and 450+ supervised client hours, meaning i've extensive experience supporting clients from all walks of life. I am humanistically trained and take a person-centered approach to sessions. This means empathy, honesty and real care are the foundations of our conversation. I have also undertaken additional training in working with trauma, shame, and eating disorders, meaning I am particularly attuned to these struggles.

As the client, you are at the heart of the process. My Counsouling Corner is one of empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard, meaning it is a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space for you to show up as you are and explore whatever is on your heart or mind.

I have worked in a variety of sectors, including the voluntary, private, and public sectors, with a large part of my career dedicated to supporting clients through addiction, as well as work-related stress through my EAP (employee assistance program) work.

Therapeutic Experience

My professional experience includes working with clients in areas such as

  • Grief and loss

  • Family and relationship issues

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Work-related stress

  • Domestic and sexual abuse

  • Addiction and eating disorders

  • Low self-esteem and confidence

  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts

  • Trauma

My personal passions lie in advocating for the mixed-race perspective of mental health. My MSc research explored themes of loneliness, disconnection and lack of belonging, which can be felt by individuals as they are often forced to negotiate aspects of their identity. This research continues to inform my practice as I ensure to work-within-diversity, providing clients with the opportunity to feel seen for all aspects of their identity, offering a reparative sense of belonging in my Counsouling Corner.

Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck or emotionally exhausted. In time, life will feel a little easier to face, and you’ll start to recognise yourself again. For some, it's about breaking unhelpful patterns. For others, it might look like exploring the root of things. Either way, there is no rush and no dismissal.
